Morris routs Sussex in 2nd half

Deadlocked 39-39 at the halftime break, Morris County opened the second half with a 19-1 and coasted to a 89-68 victory over Sussex County in the annual Sussex-Essex Senior Boys Basketball Showcase at Hopatcong High School on Wednesday, March 27, 2008. Morris Hills' Adam Katz picked up the MVP accolades after distributing a game-high 14 assists and adding six points.
Katz, a 5-6, 145 speedster, finished his career as a Scarlet Knight with 1372 points, having scored 492 as a senior when he was selected a 1st Team All-Star by both the Iron Hills Conference and Morris County coaches. A four-year varsity letterwinner in both basketball and soccer, Katz will continue his academic/athletic career on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Florham Park, playing for the Jersey Devils of the NCAA Division III Middle Atlantic Conference.
Mount Olive's Russell Holloway led all players, netting 17 points after finishing the year with a 17.1 average. Chatham's Billy Oliver, a 6-8, 210-pound power forward who averaged a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds this season, chipped in with a 13-point performance for the winners. Pope John's Sam Mushman, selected by the New Jersey Herald as its Player of the Year, topped the Sussex scoring column when he pumped a dozen points through the iron. Delbarton's Patrick Sullivan, selected Player of the Year by the Daily Record, was unavailable as he was attending the Green Wave's Sports Banquet.
Pope John's Brandon Bays, selected as member of the Sussex squad, was sidelined by an injury. The 5-10, 180-pound guard was a three-year monogram winner for the Lions for will attend Bucknell University. He stands out in the classroom, maintaining a GPA of 4.5 and is a member of the National Honor Society.
